India – A Grand Celebration of Youth and Hope Begins

(ANS – Tirupattur) – Tirupattur, the Sandal City of Tamil Nadu, is witnessing an extraordinary convergence of youthful energy and purpose as SYMFEST 2024-25 began yesterday, December 29, at the historic Sacred Heart College. Hosted by the Salesian Province of Chennai, this landmark event celebrates the 200th anniversary of Don Bosco’s Dream at Nine. It brings together over 1,500 young participants from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh under the theme “Anchored in Hope: Young People as Agents of Change.”

Reflecting on the significance of SYMFEST 2024-25, Father Don Bosco Lourdusamy, the Provincial In-Charge for Youth Ministry in South Asia, emphasized that it is a celebration and motivation to a mission to inspire young people to dream, act, and transform. He noted that St. John Bosco’s faith in the immense potential of youth to shape society continues to resonate through gatherings like SYMFEST. This event, he explained, serves as a space where hope is kindled, talents are nurtured, and the values of justice and peace are deepened.

Father Patrick Lepcha, Youth Ministry Delegate of South Asia, highlighted that the youth gathered for SYMFEST represent the vibrancy of South Asia and the promise of a better tomorrow. He described the event as a transformative journey, allowing young people to connect, learn, and share their aspirations. According to him, SYMFEST equips participants with tools and inspiration to lead with courage and compassion in a world that deeply needs their voices.

Father John Christy, Youth Ministry Delegate of the Chennai Province, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the fest. He remarked that SYMFEST is a collective endeavour celebrating unity and collaboration within the Salesian family. The event reflects the commitment of every community involved. It highlights Sacred Heart College as a symbol of Don Bosco’s vision—a place where young people are welcomed, inspired, and empowered.

The Rector of Sacred Heart College, Father Praveen Peter, and the Principal, Father Maria Antony Raj, expressed their pride in hosting this historic event. They observed that SYMFEST 2024-25 is not just about the activities over the four days but also about the seeds of leadership and change being sown for the future. They highlighted that Sacred Heart College provides a space for young people to celebrate their creativity, energy, and hope while fostering meaningful connections and shared aspirations for a brighter world.
