Spain – The National Youth Ministry proposes a formation plan for professionals in affective and sexual formation

10 July 2024

(ANS – Madrid) – In line with the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia and in light of the proposals of the study seminar on "Family and Youth Ministry", the Salesians in Spain are proposing a "plan for the formation of professionals in affective and sexual education". The course aims to address the motivation of the educators themselves, as well as providing resources and interpretative keys to be coherent and qualified professionals in formation.

The intention of the Salesian Youth Ministry in Spain is to offer this formation to people active in the Provinces and in Salesian works as guides, pastoral coordinators, tutors, animators, educators in general and those responsible for formation, so that they can correctly guide, coordinate and energise the processes of affective and sexual education.

"We have oriented ourselves towards formation that will be partly face-to-face and partly online with tutoring. We believe that the best format is face-to-face formaton distributed over three weeks in which we will work on the exposure of content and the use of active methodologies, promoting shared reflection and having a practical approach,"  the people responsible for the initiative explained.

The course programme, with a broad and multidisciplinary perspective, will cover various areas:

-        the affective and sexual dimension strictly understood, with insights into the biological foundations, the processes of constructing the sexual dimension of the person, sexual conduct, affectivity and attachment, emotions, functional diversities and affective and sexual disorders;

-        the ethical-religious dimension, with the study of love and sexuality in the Bible and in the light of the magisterium of Pope Francis, reading, to then conclude with a module on the ethics of sexual affectivity;

-        the sociocultural dimension of the topic, in relation to legal issues, anthropology, sociological and cultural analysis and the family model offered;

-        finally, the preventive pedagogical dimension, where the pedagogical foundations will be explored, the sociocultural keys of affective-sexual education, accompaniment towards the maturation, prevention and accompaniment of adolescent pregnancies, the programming of training courses, the question of abuse and violence, and prevention from a Salesian perspective.

The calendar of face-to-face appointments, still subject to change, includes three macro working sessions in February and October 2025 and in March 2026.

The registration process began on 1 July 2024 and will end on 1 December 2024. Registration must be made through the website of the Salesian National Centre for Youth Ministry.
