Italy - Music and Solidarity: Evening for Peace at Don Bosco Ranchibile in Palermo

11 June 2024

Palermo, Italy – June 2024 - Educational work of the Salesians of Palermo and educational mission of the Salesians of the Holy Land: this was the main theme of the evening for Peace aimed at solidarity for education among "the peoples" of the Mediterranean. The event combined art and reflection involving, among other things, artists of the choral Ensemble from the Conservatory of Palermo, the DBsons musical group  of the Salesians of Sicily and the testimony of Fr Emanuele Vezzoli, Vice-Provincial of the  Middle East Province (MOR). The event was opened in the school courtyard by the director of the educational work, Fr Domenico Saraniti, followed by musical performances. Then there was the testimony of Fr Vezzoli, who shared the difficulties and hopes of the Salesian communities in a region like the Middle East marked by conflicts. "The Salesian educational mission," said Fr Vezzoli "is based on the principle of educating to become ‘good Christians and upright citizens’", peacemakers with a broad perspective. Fr Vezzoli was given a collection, an expression of the esteem and affection of those present for the Holy Land. Full of emotion, Fr Vezzoli said "This sum represents an important contribution to support the peace and assistance projects promoted by the Salesians in these war-torn areas where often the members of the Salesian community produce and distribute bread and anything else to feed the population." The event ended with an address from Fr Giovanni D’Andrea, Provincial of the Salesians of Sicily, who addressed the Salesian "good night" to those present.
