Due to the immense extent of the Province, Fr Maravilla was only able to visit presences in the New Delhi and Ranchi regions and was able to meet his confreres who gathered to meet him. “Some confreres often mistakenly think that the General Councillor for the Missions visits to look for missionaries. My task is instead to foster the missionary spirit and commitment throughout the whole Society " (C. 138).
Thus, during his visit, he encouraged everyone to keep the missionary spirit alive through the passion to make Jesus Christ known, even if in most of the contexts of the Province this implies an attractive and transparent testimony of consecrated life. In addition, he illustrated to those present the missionary challenges and the new missionary presences of the Congregation.
The General Councillor for the Missions was able to see for himself the great work that the Salesians are doing among the tribal populations of the Ranchi region. In this sense, he stressed that a vibrant missionary spirit among the Salesians offers new enthusiasm in each Educative and Pastoral Community and renews the entire Province.
In conclusion, he recalled the words of St. John Paul: "Faith is strengthened by giving it to others" (Redemptoris Missio, no. 2).
