Spain – Day of reflection on the formation of Salesians in Spain and Portugal

16 January 2024

(ANS – Madrid) – Saturday, 13 January 2024 was the day chosen to carry out the traditional “Formation of formators” day for Salesian provinces in Spain and Portugal. A total of 22 Salesians participated in the meeting.

Every year, this event brings together the Salesians active in the houses of formation and the Salesian Rectors of works where there are Salesians who are carrying out their practical training, learning about Salesian life.

On this occasion, the meeting provided for a mixed approach involving meeting in person and online: the Vocational Guidance House for the Salesians in St James the Greater Province in Spain (SSM) Madrid hosted the meeting in person, with digital links to other presences Mary Help of Christians Province, Spain (SMX) and St Anthony Province Portugal (POR).

Fr Guido Errico, from the Formation Sector of the Congregation, also participated in the meeting.

At the beginning of the day, the working time was divided between the Salesians responsible for the different phases of formation: prenovitiate, practical training and theologate. This moment of reflection left room for the sharing of experiences by all participants.

The morning then ended with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Vice Provincial for SSM, Fr Samuel Segura.

In the afternoon, Fr Errico presented a document for reflection on the profile of the Salesian formator: “The formator in the new Ratio”. After this presentation and the reading of the document, there was a moment of exchange of ideas and a proposal regarding conclusions.

The work ended with an evaluation of the meeting itself and with the proposal for an upcoming appointment to be held in the next academic year.
