Brazil – 35th General Assembly of the Salesian Network of Brazil (RSB)

(ANS – Brasilia) – The Ordinary General Assembly of the RSB was held on the morning of Tuesday, 21 November 2023, at the main meeting room of the headquarters of the Salesian Network Brazil (RSB) in Brasília. The event takes place annually, in April and November, from a charismatic, inter-congregational and legal perspective, with the aim of accompanying, evaluating and planning the actions of the Network.

The meeting was attended by the President of the RSB, Sister Teresinha Ambrosim; the Vice President, Fr Ricardo Carlos; the Executive Director, Sister Silvia Aparecida da Silva; as well as representatives of the ten Provinces of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB, 6) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA, 4) of Brazil:

– FMA Our Lady of Aparecida Province (San Paolo) - Sister Alaíde Deretti;

– FMA Our Lady of the Amazon Province (Manaus) - Sister Maria Carmelita de Lima Conceição;

– FMA Mother Mazzarello Province (Belo Horizonte) - Sister Teresinha Ambrosim;

– FMA Mary Help of Christians Province (Recife) - Sister Maria Adriana Gomes da Silva;

– SDB St Aloysius Gonzaga Province (Recife) - Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Júnior;

– SDB St Pius X Province (Porto Alegre) – Fr Ademir Ricardo Cwendrych;

– SDB St Dominic Savio Province (Manaus) – Fr Jefferson Luís da Silva Santos;

– SDB Mary Help of Christians Province (San Paolo) – Fr Justo Ernesto Piccinini;

– SDB St John Bosco Province (Belo Horizonte) – Fr Natale Vitali Forti;

– SDB St Alphonsus Liguori Province (Campo Grande) – Fr Ricardo Carlos;

To complete the parity of representatives between SDB and FMA, Sister Amélia de Assis Castro and Sister Jucélia de Jesus Silva were also present. As a guest, the contact person for the Conference of FMA Provinces in Brazil (CIB) and Visitor for Brazil, Sister Paola Battagliola, was also present.

During the meeting, topics such as the strategic project of the Network were addressed, to make an evaluation and identify the prospects for next year; and the evaluation of the RSB National Meeting, which was a very important stage for the Salesian presence in Brazil, because it was the first meeting, after the creation of the RSB, on different charismatic lines and which led to the creation of the Youth Observatory.

"The 35th General Assembly of the RSB represents a phase of strengthening and consolidation of strategic planning, through the creation of various actions, with the involvement of the Commissions of Youth Ministry, Social Action, Schools, Communication and Higher Education" commented the Vice President of the RSB, Fr Ricardo Carlos.

"I realise that we are on a good path towards strengthening our network action in Brazil. The resolutions of this Assembly confirm our commitment to ongoing formation and continuity of projects, with the aim of giving new meaning to our units, based on the Salesian charism, to educate and evangelise young people", added Sister Silvia Aparecida da Silva.

During the meeting, the new Executive Director of the RSB, Fr Justo Ernesto Piccinini, was appointed, also elected Executive Secretary of CISBRASIL (Conference of WDS Provinces of Brazil) during the previous day's Assembly.

This year's second RSB Assembly brought reflections and discernment on the actions proposed for 2024, as well as a resumption of the actions of 2023, and highlighting issues related to administrative management, with the support and participation of the Executive Coordinator of the Salesian Network Brazil, Maria Dantas, and with the support and participation of the RSB Legal Advisor, Vanessa Martins, regarding legal issues.
