Mexico – The first course of the Salesian Past Pupils Leadership School concludes

22 June 2023

(ANS – Guadalajara) –  The closing ceremony for the first course of the Salesian Past Pupils Leadership School for North Mexico (LEXAS) was held on May 27 and 28. It was organised by the Past Pupils of Don Bosco Federation in North Mexico, with the participation of Young Past Pupils (GEx) from different works in Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Monterrey, Saltillo and San Luis Potosí.

During the previous months, leadership training was conducted through virtual sessions, focusing on understanding the role of the leader and exploring the characteristics of the leader in society, as well as leadership in the style of Don Bosco. These themes were shared by several members of the Salesian Family in North Mexico.

The objective of this final session was to develop skills and tools through workshops, dialogues, round tables and activities, in order to better understand the role of Don Bosco's Past Pupils in today's society.

The event began with the welcome and presentation of the Past Pupils Federation, followed by a panel discussion on the theme “Being Past Pupils in the World”. The session was attended by Florencia Molaro, Vice-President of the Argentine Federation; Nacho Roba, President of the local Paseo Association and President of the Federal Central Zone in Spain; as well as Eduardo Pessoa Cavalcante, Vice-President of the World Confederation and Councillor for the Americas.

Subsequently, Alejandro Corona, Salesian Cooperator, shared his thoughts on “The Past Pupils of Don Bosco in the Salesian Family” and Bro. Jesús A. García, SDB, presented the topic “Communication as an essential tool for the Past Pupils of Don Bosco”. The last activity was a conversation on “The role of the Past Pupils in the circumstances we experience in Mexico”, with the participation of  Past Pupils Ivanna Ballesteros, René Gallardo and Eduardo Herrera, followed by time for fellowship.

The second day of work began with a "good morning" from the Delegate for the Past Pupils of Don Bosco, Fr Kennedy Delgado SDB. During the day, former student Montserrat Cortés, Salesian Cooperator, held a workshop on assertive communication, as well as activities to develop Salesian leadership skills in society. The session culminated with a Mass in which the participants of this first generation of LEXAS were awarded with T-shirts by the President of the Federation, Paulina Vera.

It is important to remember that this was the first in person activity of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco Federation in North Mexico since the Covid-19 pandemic, and represented a milestone in the restarting process after years of absence.

This initiative achieves one of the key objectives of the work plan: to train leaders capable of having a significant impact on their communities. In addition, during this session, another important activity of the plan was presented, namely the “Enterprise Network” project, which will be launched on 24 June, Past Pupils of Don Bosco Day.
