Spain – “Prep4Pro”: the Salesians’ educational response for improving the employability of people at risk of social exclusion

26 May 2023

(ANS – Seville) – Salesians from the Mary Help of Christians Province (SMX), have decided through various partner institutions to improve the chances of young people, especially those at risk of exclusion, to find a job through a solution that relies on education and, at the same time, includes the implementation of strategies to internationalise the quality of their centres. This is why the SMX Province is participating in a vocational training project of the Erasmus+ KA2 programme, together with several other partner institutions from Belgium, Germany, Finland, France and Slovenia.

The “Prep4Pro” (Preparation for ErasmusPro) project came into being with these objectives in mind. It is part of the KA2 category, which started to take shape in May 2022 almost at the end of the first Erasmus+ KA3 programme carried out in the Province, the popular DBWave project, which was very well received during the 24 months it was running.

Prep4Pro hasbeen developed thanks to the work of partner organisations in Belgium, Germany, Finland, France and Slovenia, as well as Spain, with the objective of building a strong, sustainable, quality and trust-based network between European VET providers to promote and facilitate the organisation and implementation of long-term mobility for VET learners, including those with fewer opportunities.

“They contacted the SMX Province once more to propose this involvement, and on this occasion specified the actions and activities of the project in two of our centres, at Monzón, near Huesca, and at Palma del Río, near Córdoba”, the team coordinating the experience said.

The project grew out of an initial contact by the Belgian coordinator with the SMX coordination for internationalisation, at a seminar organised by the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE, in Spanish) in Zaragoza in 2017. “Given the early experience in this type of project, we decided that this could be a good opportunity to give continuity to European projects and continue to grow in this field“ they added.

“Prep4Pro” will last for two and a half years, during which six face-to-face meetings are planned for the implementation of the project, which will be complemented by online meetings. In the last months of the project, a pilot test with pupils will also be carried out.

“So far, a first face-to-face meeting has taken place in Brussels in January, followed by a second in Slovenia in April. These will be followed by further meetings in Finland in November, in Spain in February 2024, in Germany in April and in France in October”, said the Salesian project coordinator.

Other partners in the initiative are Sataedu (Finland), BBS OHZ – Berufsbildenden Schulen Osterholz-Scharmbeck (Germany), BTP CFA Occitanie (France), GO! Technisch Atheneum Zavelenberg (Belgium) and Solski center Kranj (Slovenia).
