17 April 2023

D.R. Congo - April 2023 - Annual Spiritual Exercises for the benefit of young Salesians in formation and many other Salesians of the Central Africa Province (AFC) were held from March 29 to April 4 and then from April 9 to 15 at the Philosophical Studentate “Saint Jean Bosco” in Kansebula and at the Theological Studentate “Saint Francis de Sales” in Lubumbashi. Fr. Diomède Habyarimana, SDB, from Burundi, of the Africa Great Lakes Vice-Province (AGL), animated the first retreat, for the benefit of 86 Salesians, on the theme “The Life of St. Artemide Zatti”; while Br. Cyprien Bwangi, Salesian coadjutor, of the Africa Congo Vice-Province (ACC), formator of “Saint Jean Bosco” in Kansebula, preached the second, for the benefit of 45 Salesians, on the theme “Salesian Identity, a Challenge.” In Kansebula, Fr. Habyarimana began by briefly presenting the biography of St. Artemide Zatti, showing how, through an ordinary life, and despite the precariousness of his health, he always applied himself to fulfill his mission as a good shepherd: “To be a bearer of love and hope to the sick around him.” In Lubumbashi, Salesian coadjutor Br. Bwangi spiritually nourished the participants through 10 lectures, insisting on the meaning of Salesian religious profession, charismatic identity, Salesian spirit and family atmosphere, and the witness of life in apostolic environments. It also presented some emblematic figures, especially Don Bosco and Father Rinaldi, for the success of the sequela Christi. Both retreats also benefited from the presence of Fr. Guillermo Basañes, AFC Provincial, who welcomed the participants and oversaw the “good night” thoughts. The AFC Provincial also presided over the Mass, during which the Salesians solemnly renewed their vows.
