The "Days in the Dioceses" - or Pre-Days, as they used to be called - are a preparatory meeting that precedes the WYD week and serves to foster the integration of young people from all over the world into the parish communities of the different dioceses in the country hosting the event.
The image chosen for this occasion shows the 17 locations/cathedrals of the various dioceses in Portugal, designed from their photographs, with some identifying details of each, and maintains the stylistic and graphic lines used throughout WYD Lisbon 2023.
For Miguel Mendes, the project’s biggest challenge was "being able to fit the 17 cathedrals into a single image in a way that was dynamic while maintaining the details that make it easy to identify each of the cathedrals." To transform the idea into an image, the designer opted for "the use of different perspectives," and then, in continuity with the rest of the event's graphic communication, used red, green, and yellow as the main colors.
"It’s an honor and a joy to be able to leave my imprint on an event that I’ve dreamed of since my days as part of the National Department of Youth Ministry team," commented the Coordinator of the Communication Team of the "Fundação Salesianos," who also pointed out his participation as a pilgrim at WYD 2011, held in Madrid, Spain.
Committed to the preparation of WYD Lisbon 2023, Miguel Mendes emphasizes that "working for the past year on the communication of WYD DON BOSCO 23, and now on the image of Days in Dioceses, is the culmination of years of work on behalf of the communication of the Church and Youth Ministry in Portugal."
The Days in the Dioceses initiative will take place from July 26-31, 2023, in 17 dioceses in mainland Portugal and the islands: the Algarve, Angra, Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança-Miranda, Coimbra, Évora, Funchal, Guarda, Lamego, Leiria-Fátima, Portalegre-Castelo Branco, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Viseu.
These days will constitute an itinerary of preparation for WYD designed both for pilgrims from all over the world and for their host communities, and will offer all participants an ecclesial experience of sharing faith, of being Church and community; finally, they will also allow the richness of the traditions, culture, and heritage of each of these 17 dioceses to be made known.
