Poland – "ReBuild Ukraine": for a Ukraine as soon as possible free, at peace, prosperous

22 February 2023

(ANS - Warsaw) - On February 15-16, the "ReBuild Ukraine" conference and exhibition, organized by Premier Expo, was held in Warsaw. During the conference, representatives of Ukrainian cities presented the needs of their local communities. The needs listed are enormous: in some cities, more than 70% of everything has been destroyed. This is the price residents have paid to defend their freedom. The meeting was also attended by Aleksandra Jakubczyk, from the Salesian Emergency Management Team in Ukraine, who gathered data and perspectives from this gathering, a forward-looking meeting with a positive proposal for the rebirth of Ukraine, the country, and its people.

An estimated 350 bridges have been demolished since the first day of the war in Ukraine (50 have already been rebuilt). 126,700 private homes, 16,800 apartment buildings, 800 healthcare buildings, and 11 airports have been demolished or severely damaged.

The conference was attended by more than 300 exhibitors associated with various construction sectors (heating systems, sewage systems, water treatment, residential building construction, social building construction, bridge construction, solar panels, and many others). In attendance were representatives of the governments of European countries - including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the Minister of Development and Technology of Poland, the Minister of Economy of Latvia; and, most importantly, representatives of the cities and local communities of Ukraine, including the mayors of Zhytomyr, Izyum; representatives of the local governments of Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Bucha, Kherson, Mariupol, and others. They presented projects for the reconstruction of their cities - especially schools, hospitals, social infrastructure, sports centers, but also urban development infrastructure, such as airports and industrial parks. Each of the represented cities has already prepared plans, visualizations, cost estimates, and budgets; the only thing they need are partners to start working as quickly and efficiently as possible in due course.

According to Ukrainian representatives present at the conference, the issue of rebuilding the country is not tomorrow's issue, but yesterday's. The Ukrainians' dream and hope is to rebuild their homeland as a modern European country, free of Soviet memories. They present Ukraine's reconstruction to investors as a good capital investment. They understand that it is risky at the moment, but they believe that Ukraine will win this fight for freedom in a short time, and then its renewal and reconstruction will have to be addressed immediately. A reconstruction that will not only involve buildings, roads, and bridges, but also a sense of freedom, democracy, and a new economic system.

"During this two-day meeting, we could see the great solidarity of the world towards Ukraine and the great hope for a quick end to the war and the possibility of creating a stronger, even more beautiful, and more European Ukraine," said Ms. Jakubczyk.
