09 January 2023

Puerto Montt, Chile - January 2023 - Members of the Provincial Prevention Council and the Educational Pastoral Community of the Salesians in Puerto Montt have organized a "Basic Abuse Prevention Training" course. The initiative follows the guidelines of the abuse prevention program issued by the Bishops' Conference of Chile. On Jan. 4, about 100 people, including teachers, educational assistants, and pastoral agents from the "Cristo Salvador" parish, participated in the course, configured in four modules: sexual abuse in the Universal and Chilean Church, the path to cure and hope; basic elements for understanding sexual abuse and the Church's approach; introduction to sexual abuse in civil and canonical justice; and sexual abuse prevention. For his part, Freddy Araya, from the CIL Provincial Youth Ministry area and trainer of the course, pointed out that "the commitment of the Salesian Congregation and local communities continues to be reaffirmed through these activities, since the issue of abuse and its prevention is of great importance for the future of society and the Church, and together we must confront it."
