The Councillor General for the Missions, Fr Guillermo Basañes, had been present for the first Seminar-Workshop which was held last year. This collaboration between the Centre in Quito and the Sector for the Missions in planning and giving the course for missionaries for the two regions of America has already proved very fruitful.
The centre with its own methodology and profound Salesian riches is an important environment for the conduct of the two-year course on Missionary Pastoral. On the other hand, the Sector for the Missions offers the Centre support and opportunities to be more open to the missionary dimension, as an essential element of the Salesian charism.
The seminar-workshop precedes each course for the following year. This seminar aims to provide elements for the course on Missionary Pastoral in 2017, specifically on the phenomenon of migration and the challenges and opportunities it offers to the Salesian mission in America. Three external experts were invited to present the different aspects of the migration phenomenon.
The Sector for the Missions, in collaboration with the Salesian Theological Institute in Shillong, also offers another annual course in English for missionaries of the two regions of Asia. Likewise, the sector, with the Faculty of Theology of the Salesian Pontifical University, offers a Missionary Pastoral course of three months’ duration in Rome.
