India - Provincial Chapter of Guwahati Province

Guwahati, India - February 2022 - From 7 to 12 February at the Don Bosco Institute the XXI Provincial Chapter of the Salesian "Mary Help of Christians" Province of Guwahati (ING) was held, moderated for the first time in the history of the Province by a Salesian Brother, Br. Joby Mani. Sixty-six capitulars and eight invited observers took part in the Provincial Chapter, which began on 7 February with a retreat preached by Fr Jonas Kerketta, from the Dimapur Province. On 8 February Msgr. John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati, celebrated the inaugural Mass and Fr Januarius Sangma, ING Provincial, declared the Chapter open. After some official acts, the Provincial presented the report on the state of the ING Province, which was followed by the reading of the Chapter's Working Document, discussed in seven chapter commissions. On 9 February Msgr. Thomas Menamparampil, Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati, presided over the Eucharist, and in his homily he recalled the enthusiasm of the first Salesian missionaries, which must be imitated in today's mission. During the following days, the revision of the Province Directory was discussed, the final document of the Chapter was voted on, and the various Provincial policies were discussed. On February 12, Fr Sangma presided over the concluding Eucharist.
