Suva, Fiji - December 2021 - After almost two years of impediments due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, Fr William Matthews, Superior of the Salesian Province of Australia (AUL), was able to visit the Salesian community at Suva. Upon his arrival at the parish, Fr Matthews was welcomed with a traditional ceremony by the parishioners and laity. Then, accompanied by the Salesians, he made pastoral visits to the villages of Muanikoso, Makoi, Davuilevu, Nakasi, and Waidamudamu, where he met many people and young people who recognized him thanks to the photographs seen in the Salesian Bulletin and in Salesian publications. People showed gratitude to Fr Matthews for his visit, shared their stories with him and talked about the Salesian presence in the areas, especially the Salesians’ work with their children.
