The report, entitled “Quem matou? Negro, pobre e da suburban, o perfil das vítimas de homicídio no Ceará”, (Who was killed? Black, poor and of the peripheries: The profile of murder victims in Ceará), was broadcast on November 1 during the capsule "Dom Bosco Information Notice". It was produced by journalists Jocasta Pimentel and Roberta Farias. It highlights the profile of the majority of murder victims in Fortaleza, based on a study carried out by the Office of Public Defenders of the State of Ceará (DPCE).
This year, the award, now in its 5th edition, had as its theme "Public defenders: Ensuring Rights, Justice and Citizenship for the most needy", and included four categories in the journalistic competition: Print (including both newspapers and magazines), Radio, Television, and Online/digital news portals. In addition to this, University Student creations in the same category by those who are studying between the 4th and 8th cycle of Social Communication/Journalism courses in Higher Education Institutes were also awarded.
For the President of ADPEC, Ms. Andrea Coelho, the Journalism Award represents a well-established successful initiative, which honors and recognizes the work of journalists, reporters and communication professionals who, through their daily work, contribute to spreading the work of Public Defenders in favor of democracy, citizenship and Human Rights.
In all, 40 works were presented and accepted in the different categories, of which 16 were awarded in some way or other. The award-ceremony will take place on 8 December 2021.
