The ASYM was started in 2012, a few months after some young Salesian leaders came home changed by the WYD in Madrid 2011. "We came back with the awareness of being part of not only our community but of a wider network of parishes, independent schools and youth groups that already existed here in Australia," the young people said.
In the last five years the relationship between the various Salesian youth groups has been strengthened through participation in events such as the Provincial "OzBosco" rallies and other events where the young people who attend the Salesian centres in the country can meet and share. "The students in the Salesian schools have never been so aware of their unique place in the Salesian Family in Australia and the world,” according to ASYC members.
The ASYC is made up of young people of college-age, who cultivate their faith in Jesus in the style of Don Bosco, and are committed to the mission with and for young people.
"No matter what we call ourselves, we are and we will always be Salesian youth and followers of Don Bosco" they conclude.
