Peru - Salesians help families of "Saqsaywamán Fortress"

28 April 2020

Cusco, Peru - April 2020 - How many people in the world, visiting the "Macchu Picchu" in Cusco and admiring its creation, have not thought of God? There, in the heart of what was the Inca Empire, the Salesians have been at the service of the poorest for over 100 years. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has also reached the area, perhaps through the millions of tourists who visit it every year. The quarantine and stoppage to business and activities in Peru have caused families making a living from tourism are now experiencing a profound crisis. For this reason, from the Don Bosco Hospitality House, led by Fr Jorge Atarama, the older kids have started an initiative: they prepare food bags to support 70 families of a peasant community close to the famous "Saqsaywamán Fortress". The initiative was made possible thanks to the contribution of "SUPEMSA Cusco" and "Sigma Alimentos Perú".
