Batulao, Philippines - March 2016 - The meeting of the Superiors of the Provinces and Delegations of the East Asia-Oceania region continued on 8 March with reports on the various situations in the region; the presentation of the book on the Formation of Salesians in Social Communication, the result of collaboration between the two Departments; and the latest indications of the Rector Major on the Salesian mission, animation and government, and collaboration with the laity. On the morning of 9 March, the Rector Major left for the start of a Visit to the Southern Philippines. The meeting of Provincials and Superiors, however, continues until Friday 11 March, with discussion with the Councillors for Youth Ministry, Social Communication and Salesian Missions.
(ANS - Tiruchy) - Following the indications of Pope Francis, the Salesians are promoting sustainable development initiatives. Significant in this respect was the awarding of the Pascual Chávez 2015 Prize for innovative Salesian ministry in the South Asia region to the initiative of the student Eco-clubs, promoted by the Salesian Province of India-Tiruchy.
(ANS – Phnom Penh) – Joseph Sinnott, a Salesian High School student and Eagle Scout, completed a project to collect and repair bicycles for Salesian students in Cambodia. At the end of 2015, 39 bicycles were distributed to students supported by the Don Bosco Children Fund, a Salesian-run organization that assists poor youth between the ages of six and fifteen who are either unable to go to school or have had to drop out due to poverty.
