(ANS - Juba) - A fragile truce has been declared by both sides in the struggle for power in South Sudan, those loyal to President Salva Kiir and those of his deputy and traditional opponent Riek Machar. However, it is not yet time to breathe a sigh of relief. The Salesians from Juba, the capital of the country, send this report: "Our country is plunged back into disorder. There has been heavy shooting for three days. Hundreds of people have been killed and the damage is severe. Many essential goods are lacking. Continue to pray for us, we are experiencing a very serious humanitarian crisis in our country. "
(ANS - Sarh) - The Republic of Chad is located in Central Africa. Chad is the most recent of the countries of Africa to receive the Gospel of Jesus. There are two Polish Salesians preaching the Gospel in the country: Fr Artur Bartol and Fr Jan Hubner. In this part of the world there is extreme poverty and an epidemic of tuberculosis that is out of control.
Gela, Italy - July 2016 – Summer activities are taking place from 20 June to 25 July in the Salesian Oratory of Saint Dominic Savio in Gela, in the Province of Sicily (ISI). About 450 children and young people are participating in the GREST programme entitled "Edelon, the extraordinary door", a path of human and Christian formation, to discover the plan God has for them. GREST is led by Fr Franco Crimi who is in charge of the oratory, Fr Aurelio di Quattro, Fr Pierpaolo Galota, about 80 leaders and collaborators and about ten parents.
Hua Hin, Thailand - July 2016 - Between 8 and 10 July, about 80 members of the Salesian Cooperators (ASC) of Thailand attended their annual retreat on the theme "Be merciful as your Father" is merciful. The retreat was led by Fr Peter Niphon Sarachit, Rector of "Don Bosco Vithaya Udornthani" and by Fr Paul Prasert Somngam, Provincial of Thailand (THA).
