Among the expected guests: Prof. Hilligje Van't Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU) - UNESCO, who will deliver the introductory lecture. There will also be numerous ambassadors accredited to the Holy See, various university Rectors, directors of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, civil and ecclesiastical authorities, and illustrious past pupils of the UPS.
The day will start at 9:30 (UTC+2) in the church of Santa Maria della Speranza with the Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians and UPS Grand Chancellor.
At 11:00 am in the Paul VI Hall, Rector Magnifico prof. Fr Mauro Mantovani shall open the academic act during which Prof. Van't Land speaks on: "Young generations and universities in front of the new world challenges."
In the last two decades, Professor Van't Land has distinguished herself for her international commitment to supporting education as a key factor in social change. Firmly convinced of the importance of interculturality, she develops projects and initiatives to promote policies for education and democratic citizenship, and will underline the important role of the University in its commitment to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, starting from Quality Education.
The morning of 11 October, after the musical interlude, the awarding of the medal to emeritus professors, the awarding of deserving students and the intervention of a past pupil of the UPS, will end with the proclamation of the opening of the academic year from part of the Grand Chancellor, Fr Á.F. Artime.
The inauguration of the academic year of the UPS falls this year in significant concomitance with the development of the Synod of Bishops on "Youth, faith and vocational discernment", and only a few days after the conclusion of the International Congress "Youth and Life Choice: Educational Perspectives" that took place at the UPS in preparation for the Synod; two events, these, which confirm the university in the mission inherited from the founder, St. John Bosco: educating and being at the service of young people.
