This important Salesian meeting on accompanying the prayer life of the young is the fourth event organized by the Youth Ministry Department in relation to the revised frame of reference of our Salesian youth ministry. Because the Rector Major was absent on his visit in India, the Vicar, Fr Francesco Cereda, SDB welcomed the 70 participants from 32 countries belonging to the 41 Salesian provinces in the world. The FMA were also represented at the meeting. Some of the participants were from the group of Novice Masters who were in Rome for a meeting of their own in the days ahead.
Each day began with a Lectio Divina on the "Our Father" prepared by Fr Juan José Bartolomé, SDB and each morning there was a speaker who shared on the themes on Salesian Prayer, Spiritual Accompaniment and Vocation. On the first day, Fr Aldo Giraudo gave a talk on "what is meant by prayer" and "how did Don Bosco educate to prayer”. On the second day Fr Michele Molinar spoke about "the urgency and the need for the prayer of the spiritual companion”. The third morning was devoted to the topic of educating young people to personal prayer with a contribution from Fr Alejandro Musolino. On the final day Fr Francisco Santos spoke about the close relationship between vocation and prayer in spiritual accompaniment.
After each presentation, ample time was given for personal reflection followed by sharing in groups. In the end, the group sharing did indeed enrich the themes initially presented by the experienced Salesian speakers.
All these reflections, proposals and the 9 "Good Practices" that emerged, as well as the three talks, will soon be published by the Youth Ministry Department and made available to the whole Salesian Family.
