In fact, around 1,400 square meters of solar panels were installed at the Salesian institute to help improve the environment and to enhance educational awareness, achieve sustainability and energy efficiency.
On the morning of Friday 17 January 2020, the Salesian College of Puertollano inaugurated the solar panels installed on the roofs of the pavilions of the Vocational and Secondary Education Centers.
The event was attended by the authorities of the Municipality of Puertollano in Ciudad Real, including the Councilor for the Environment, Noelia Caballero Romero, and the Councilor for Sport and Works, Jesús Buendía. On behalf of the Salesians, there was Fr Fernando García Sánchez, Coordinator of the Schools of the Province and recently appointed next Provincial of the "St James Major" Province, the Director of the Salesians of Puertollano, Fr Ernesto Rodríguez-Arias Izard, and many other prominent figures.
The ceremony began with a few words of greeting and welcome from the School Director. Then spoke the representative of POWEN, the company that installed the photovoltaic panels, a total of 301 modules with a production capacity of 99 KWp.
With this public ceremony, they wished to highlight the importance of the work done, for the contribution to the improvement of the environment by the Salesians towards the community, and directly, towards the students of the center itself and in favor of the young people of Puertollano.
For this reason, the representative of POWEN was able to say: "We are a national reference point in the field of energy efficiency, in the educational field."
In the message for the World Day of Prayer for the care of Creation 2019, the Pope warns: “Too many are seeking domination on Creation. Let us choose to change, to take on simpler and more respectful lifestyles! It is time to abandon the dependence on fossil fuels and to undertake, rapidly and decisively, transitions towards forms of clean energy and a sustainable and circular economy."
