Fr Jabloyan says that the problems do not arise so much from the lack of public services (electricity or fuel oil or water) but are the result of the massive bombing recently resumed: "mortars, rockets, bombs and heavy artillery ... all these are aimed in a crazy manner at the city and the civilian population. There have been many victims including many young people and children."
"As for the Salesians” – he says – “we have stopped all our oratory activities to be able to accommodate people in need or in danger. So far, thank the Lord, our building is intact, and Fr Luciano and I are fine."
The young Salesian concludes: "Dear Fr Munir, I ask you to pray for us and for the people of Aleppo so that this unnecessary war will end soon."
In a message published yesterday 2 May on the Fides Agency, the Catholic Bishops of Aleppo have appealed "to the consciences of those who plan and those who are carrying out this war", pleading for an end to hostilities, for the "love of God" and "mercy of men", for "the cry of the blood of children and martyrs that rises to God" and "for the tears of the bereaved mothers". At the same time, the bishops urged the people not to lose hope, sure that so much suffering will be "sanctified and sanctifying, for peace in Syria and the salvation of our city."
