The station is inspired by the charism of Don Bosco, "to form good Christians and honest citizens" and it focuses on the issues that are of most concern to Congolese youth. The team at Radio Don Bosco is composed entirely of young people who have just completed university studies. This helps the radio to have innovative and creative programming.
Each year, Radio Don Bosco develops a theme around which all its programmes revolve. This year the focus is on education for peace. By the end of 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in D. R. of Congo. "It seemed right for us this year to prepare young people to face the elections with confidence, maturity and responsibility," said Fr Wilfried Mushagalusa, SDB, Director General of the station.
The history of D. R. of Congo shows that in the past many young people have been cleverly manipulated and turned into easy targets. A good education for peace is therefore first-rate preventive action.
Despite the goodwill shown by all team members of Radio Don Bosco, this is not a good time for the station. In January lightning struck the building and damaged much of the equipment, especially the transmitter. It was repaired, but it broke again and now we need a new appliance.
The Minister of Communications of the R.D.R. of Congo said last year that Radio Don Bosco was among the most important radio stations in the region and constitutes a real instrument of evangelization and human promotion for young people.
