The National Council of Higher Education (CESU) - a body which plans, counsels, coordinates, offers recommendations in the field of higher education, and assists the Ministry of National Education in achieving the aims and purposes of achieving the nation's Quality standards - approved three universities, including the "Salesian University Foundation – UNISAL", on the same date.
CESU is a collegial body composed of representatives of the academic and scientific communities, of the country's productive sector, and of official institutions involved in the development of the field of higher education. For this reason, the "recognition as legal entity" assigned to the Salesian institution is of great importance for the development of the educational process.
"The Salesian University Foundation is an Institution of Higher Education of the Salesian community, founded by St. John Bosco," states the text of the Colombian University Observatory. "Its Rector Major is Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, and the project leader is Fr Leonardo Gómez."
Fr Jaime Morales Alfonso, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Colombia-Bogota (COB) and Fr Leonardo Gómez Hernández, SDB, Rector of the Salesian University Foundation, said: "The news reaches us at this Easter time and the last and final approval of this project was taken at the CESU meeting on January 31, 2018, the day of St. John Bosco. These signs encourage us to put all our energy into this new field of our mission for young people, preferably those of the working classes."
Now, after this fundamental passage, comes the phase of so-called institutionalization, that is, the passage that must translate and transform what has been written in the project into actual fact. The first task is to establish the University Community in charge of promoting the entire consolidation process; subsequently, the first faculties are to be prepared starting the first half of 2020: Agro-Industrial Engineering, Energy Engineering, IT Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemistry, and Community Education.
