Slovakia - Reliquary for Titus Zeman's beatification ready

28 September 2017

(ANS - Bratislava) - On Wednesday, September 27, in the Provincial House of the Salesians in Bratislava, the relic containing the mortal remains of Titus Zeman, the Venerable Servant of God who will be beatified on Saturday, September 30, was blessed and sealed during a brief ceremony.

After reading the Decree of Martyrdom - dated 27 February - and a brief prayer for vocations, the Archbishop of Bratislava, Msgr. Stanislav Zvolensky, sealed the urn before the artists who made the reliquary, Andrei Botek and Marian Kralik, with their collaborators, as well as the Postulator General, Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, the Deputy Postulator, Fr Jozef Slivon of the Slovak Province, Fr Jozef Izold, and a number of Salesians and lay collaborators of the Province.

The front of the bronze reliquary represents, in two reliefs, two vital moments of Fr Zeman's life: the clandestine passages to save the Salesian youth, and the moment of his capture. In the upper part of the urn, a night butterfly symbolizes the nocturnal passages and the victory of good over evil. On the sides, there are decorative elements inspired by Vajnory, the birthplace of Fr Zeman.

The biblical script - "We too must give our lives for our brothers" - sums up the meaning of Fr Zeman's testimony and his message to us all.
