The digital radio's proposal is embedded in the "Educomunication" effort undertaken by the "San Giuseppe" Province of Uruguay (URU), thanks to the combined efforts of the Youth Ministry and Social Communications delegations. Its aim is to put into practice a pedagogical approach that favors the formation of young interlocutors capable of transforming reality.
The radio currently counts on a group of 10 youngsters who conduct and produce programs. They belong to a number of Salesian centers, and are accompanied by a Salesian and the Province's Social Communications Team.
Programs vary. They range from "The Gospel of the Day", and broadcasts some of the evangelical comments made by the Salesians, to the traditional thoughts of the "Good Night"; from the "El puzzle" program, wherein youths share their daily lives in interviews, to "Cartelera", where various news items pertaining to the Uruguayan SYM are presented in an informal fashion. There is, of course, no lack of music and songs loved by young people.
"What you did not expect has arrived" was the slogan accompanying the build up to the first radio broadcasts, and so far, the comments received from listeners have been positive. For example, one listener said: "I'm happy to be able to listen to this radio station. I really enjoyed the theme of today's broadcast, because I have little children."
The team and the radio facilities were blessed by the URU Provincial, Fr Nestor Castell, on the programs' start date. The challenge: that all young people in the SYM can find themselves a space on the radio.
