On 25th January 2023, Rector Major with the consent of the General Council, created the Province of St. Artemide Zatti – Tanzania (TZA) detached it from the Province of Mary Help of Christians, Eastern Africa (AFE).
The Province of Tanzania was officially created on 8th September 2023, with its seat in Dar Es Salaam and its first Provincial in the person of Fr. Emilius Aloyce Salema.
Salesian Personnel
The vibrant Salesian presence in TZA consists of 86 professed Salesians, including:
– 40 priests
– 5 brothers (3 with perpetual vows and 2 with temporary vows)
– and 41 clerics
In addition, this year the province has 13 novices.
There are also 39 other Salesians actively serving in the TZA territory who come from neighboring Salesian circumscriptions—37 from East Africa (AFE) and 2 from Zambia-Malawi-Zimbabwe (ZMB).
At the same time, a nearly equal number of Salesians originally from TZA (36) are currently serving outside the province, either for work or for academic purposes.

Actually, TZA Province has 12 canonically erected communities and two presences.
– KIITEC – ARUSHA (Telecommunications, Electronics and Computer College): Beneficiaries: Young People.
– Oysterbay – Dar Es Salaam (Provincial Office, PDO Office, Vocational Training Center, Oratory, Street Children reach out)
– Kinondo Parish – Presence
– Ihumwa Parish – Presence
– Upanga – Dar Es Salaam (Coordination of Religious Instruction, Chaplaincy and Oratory)
– Salesian Seminary – Dodoma (Advanced Level Secondary School, Chaplaincy and Oratory)
– Technical Training College – Dodoma (Mechatronics, Engineering, Hospitality, Vocational Training, chaplaincy, Oratory etc.)
– Don Bosco – Iringa (Technical Training College, Youth Center, Oratory and Parish)
– Catechetical centre – Makalala (Catechists’ Training and Chaplaincy)
– Parish – Mafinga (Hostels for girls, home crafts, Oratory etc)
– Minor Seminary – Mafinga (Secondary school, Chaplaincy and Oratory)
– Noviciate – Morogoro (Festive Oratory and Chaplaincy)
– Post Noviciate – Moshi (Centre for Philosophy, Secondary School, chaplaincy and Oratory)
– Didia – Shinyanga (Secondary school, Hostel for boys and girls, Scouts, Chaplaincy etc)
These communities collectively carry out the following activities:
– 4 Parishes
– 4 Secondary schools
– 4 Technical colleges and centers
– 12 Oratories

Within the territory of the Province, the Salesians are supported by several other groups from the great charismatic family tree that originated with Don Bosco:

Most Relevant Works or Projects of the Province
As for the most significant initiatives carried out by the Salesians of TZA, three particular forms of youth apostolate stand out:
– Street Children: Tanzania has a population of 65 million people. 70% of this population is young people under 30 years of age. We have from this population a number Street Children in major cities. So far we have begun the Street children reach out.
– Technical Training Colleges: 70% of the Country’s population is young people. The need for technical school in Tanzania is tremendous. The country does not have enough technical schools and colleges. Salesian get involved in this field because of the high population of the young people.
– Festive Oratories: The young people come to our centres for recreation and social interaction. The young people benefit from capacity building seminars and other activities.
