This 28-minute documentary celebrates Yashini’s groundbreaking achievement, highlighting her resilience and determination in overcoming social barriers. She officially joined the police force on October 9, 2017, paving the way for greater inclusion in law enforcement.
"This documentary aims to ignite an essential public dialogue by shedding light on the challenges faced by the transgender community," said Fr. Ernest Rosario, the film’s director and Secretary of BOSCOM, the organization overseeing social communications in South Asia.
Breaking Barriers in Law Enforcement
Currently serving as a sub-inspector of Police in Chennai, Yashini’s story is one of triumph over adversity. The documentary also explores the complex relationship between the transgender community and law enforcement.
Fr. Rosario, who also wrote the documentary’s screenplay, emphasized, "Prithika’s pursuit of her childhood dream challenged societal norms that often confine transgender individuals to marginalized lives."
A Symbol of Change
Fr. Rosario further highlighted the significance of Yashini’s role, stating: "Wearing the khaki uniform is particularly meaningful given the history of police harassment and abuse faced by transgender individuals. Prithika’s presence in the police force represents a crucial step toward a more just and equitable criminal justice system for vulnerable communities."

"Transcender" has received significant accolades, including an award from the Indian National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in 2019. It has also earned prestigious international nominations, such as:
