RMG - A Joyous Reunion: SDB and FMA General Councillors Unite for Christmas Celebration

24 December 2024

(ANS – Rome) -  The traditional Christmas gathering of the General Councillors from the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) took place last evening at the newly renovated Salesian Headquarters, Sacro Cuore. After two years at Valdocco, this year’s meeting marked a significant return to Rome, where the spirit of unity and celebration was palpable.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Fr. Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major. Following some refreshments, the SDB General Councillors, divided into small groups, led their FMA counterparts on a tour of the newly restored Generalate. This exploration of their shared heritage set a positive tone for the gathering.

The second half of the evening was dedicated to spiritual reflection, culminating in a solemn Mass presided over by Fr. Martoglio. In his homily, he emphasized themes of awe and gratitude, beautifully illustrated by the humble responses of Elizabeth and Zechariah to the miraculous gifts they received. This was followed by a fraternal sharing of the Word of God, fostering a deep sense of community and prayer among the attendees. Fr. Martoglio also urged everyone to pray for Cardinal Ángel Artimez Fernández as he embarks on a new mission entrusted to him by the Church.

The gathering concluded with a festive agape in the charming “villetta” on the terrace, where Councillors enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal. The atmosphere was filled with the joyous sounds of carols sung by both SDB and FMA Councillors, followed by the cherished exchange of gifts.

In her message, FMA Mother General Sr. Chiara Cazzuola expressed her heartfelt joy at coming together as a family each Christmas. She announced the imminent canonization of Mother Troncatti, a proud moment for the entire Salesian family, and introduced the newly published book, “Lettere di Suor Maria Troncatti” (Letters of Sr. Maria Troncatti). Sr. Chiara reassured the assembly that the FMAs would continue to support the Salesians with their prayers as they prepare for the forthcoming General Chapter.

The evening concluded with a prayer led by Fr. Martoglio. This annual gathering not only strengthened the bonds of fraternity between the SDB and FMA Councillors but also reinforced their shared commitment to their mission, embodying the true spirit of Christmas through unity, faith, and joy.
