On Wednesday, 11 December, it was announced that Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, with the favourable opinion of the other members of the General Council, appointed Fr Vitális Gábor as the new Superior of the St Stephen the King Province of Hungary (UNG), with its provincial headquarters in Óbuda Budapest.

Fr Vitális Gábor was born 43 years ago, on 3 February 1981, in Eger, Hungary. He entered the Salesian novitiate located in the Hungarian capital, Óbuda Budapest, on 1 September 2000, and made his first vows on 2 September the following year, completing his initial formation with time also spent in Italy, in Pordenone and Rome, where he studied at the Pontifical Salesian University. After taking his perpetual vows on 25 October 2007 in Budapest, he was ordained a priest in the same city on 25 April 2009.

His first assignment after ordination was as Bursar of the Óbuda house in Budapest (2009-11), then he was Parish Priest (2011-20) and Rector (2013-20) in Kazincbarcika, and since 2020 he has been living in Péliföldszentkereszt, where he serves as Parish Priest in Nyergesujfalu and, since 2023, also as Rector of the Salesian community.

Also at the provincial level, immediately after his ordination, he held numerous posts, taking on Delegations between 2009 and 2013 for Alter Servers, the Salesian Youth Movement and Vocations, Oratories, and Parishes. He was also Delegate for Formation in 2011 and on several occasions Delegate for Youth Ministry, either as coordinator at the general level (2010-13) or with reference to specific areas, such as schools (2016-20) or parishes (2018-20). Since 2020 he has been serving the Province as Bursar/Economer.
