India – Salesian Global Coordinator for Higher Education Visits Salesian Province of Dimapur

(ANS – Dimapur) – The Global Coordinator of Salesian Higher Education International Rome and the former Principal of Salesian College Siliguri and Sonada, Father Dr. George Thadathil, SDB, visited the Salesian Province of Dimapur from November 21 to 27. His visit was marked by workshops and faculty development programs conducted across several regional colleges, fostering innovative research, enhancing teaching methodologies, and promoting constitutional values.

At Don Bosco College, Maram, Father Thadathil facilitated a three-day international workshop on "Innovative Research Writing," organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The workshop brought together postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members, focusing on cutting-edge research writing techniques, data collection and analysis, research ethics, and publication processes. Participants engaged in discussions addressing the crisis in Manipur, culminating in a draft working document on the conflict. The event emphasized the importance of research that responds to societal needs while promoting academic rigour.

During his visit to Don Bosco College, Golaghat as the resource person for National Constitution Day cum Seminar, Father Thadathil highlighted the significance of constitutional values and their relevance in nation-building. Addressing students and faculty, he spoke about the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and inspired participants to uphold the principles enshrined in the Constitution. The Vice-Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University and former principal of Don Bosco College Golaghat, Dr. Father Jose Palely SDB, who was the guest of honour for this occasion, also encouraged students to imbibe constitutional values and fulfill their duties as responsible citizens in building a prosperous India.

Father Thadathil conducted a Faculty Development Programme in Dimapur on "Teaching and Social Research" for the Salesian College of Higher Education faculty and Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE). He introduced innovative methodologies, including the International Association Facilitators' approach aligned with the Salesian tradition of accompaniment. The program encouraged faculty to explore research topics of societal relevance, such as sustainable environments, tech industries, and employment challenges. Participants appreciated the hands-on experience, including brainstorming sessions, mock group activities, and meditation techniques, fostering collaboration and creativity.

Father Thadathil also visited Don Bosco College, Kohima, shortly after their NAAC accreditation peer team visit. He reviewed the college's system, met with the management, and provided feedback on their developmental plans. This visit, his first to the institution, was a testament to his commitment to academic excellence and institutional growth.

Concluding his week-long engagement, Father Thadathil met with the Rector of Salesian College, the head of Education and Culture, and the Provincial to share his observations and recommendations. His visit highlighted the vital role of Salesian higher education in shaping socially conscious individuals and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence across institutions.
