A significant area of focus was the role and relationship of Youth Ministry Delegates (YMDs) with their respective Provincials and Councils. Delegates discussed the achievements and challenges within youth ministry, facilitated by group discussions allowing participants to share diverse perspectives and best practices. Presentations on these discussions provided a platform to explore ways to strengthen this vital connection, fostering greater collaboration and clarity within the ministry.
Father Patrick Lepcha SDB led discussions addressing regional concerns within the Youth Ministry Delegates' structure. A recurring theme was the need for a clearer understanding among Salesians regarding the roles and responsibilities within the Salesian Youth Ministry (SYM). Delegates identified confusion between the roles of various commissions, departments, and networks as an ongoing challenge.
The meeting featured a study session on newly released documents from the Youth Ministry Department in Rome: A Ministry that Educates to Love and Mental Health Manual: Recognize and Accompany the Mental Health of Young People. Father Miguel Angel Garcia led discussions offering strategies to integrate the teachings within the framework of youth ministry across South Asia.
In a meaningful conclusion to the gathering, the delegates celebrated Holy Mass at the Altar of St. Francis Xavier with Fr. Miguel Angel officiating. Two young people who attended the SYM Synod in Turin shared their experiences. They expressed happiness about visiting the birthplace of Don Bosco, which has inspired them to have a greater love for the father and friend of youth.
