(ANS – Addis Ababa) – Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon and Ambassador Kristina Radej, along with a 12-member delegation, made a heartfelt visit to the Don Bosco Children’s home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This gesture truly embodied Minister Fajon’s words, “Small country, but with a big heart,” as they prioritized the visit despite their brief one-day stay in Ethiopia.

The Slovenian delegation was deeply moved by the children’s songs and stories, and impressed by the holistic care provided at Don Bosco - from rescuing children from the streets to educating and reintegrating them into society. They engaged with the children, explored workshops, classrooms, and the farm, and asked thoughtful questions to grasp the realities of their lives.

This visit showcased the potential for meaningful connections between diplomacy and marginalized communities, demonstrating that collaboration is possible even in a secularized Western world. Minister Fajon, known for her commitment to social causes, has been leading Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs since June 2022 ¹. Her presence, alongside Ambassador Radej, underscored Slovenia’s dedication to fostering relationships and supporting social initiatives globally.

The key highlights of the Visit were:

–    Prioritizing Social Causes: the Slovenian delegation made Don Bosco Children’s home one of their top priorities during their brief stay.

–    Emotional Connection: the children’s songs and stories touched the hearts of Minister Fajon and her team.

–    Holistic Care: the delegation was impressed by Don Bosco’s comprehensive approach to supporting street children.

–    Diplomatic Engagement: the visit demonstrated the potential for diplomacy to positively impact marginalized communities.

This meaningful exchange not only strengthened ties between Slovenia and Ethiopia but also highlighted the importance of social responsibility and cooperation in creating a better world.
