The monument commemorates the extraordinary journey of the past pupils and friends of Don Bosco. The central figure, Carlo Gastini, represents the founder of the first association, accompanied by his mentor and Father of the Salesian Family, Don Bosco.
The entire sculpture symbolises the boundless vision of Don Bosco and the growth of the largest group of the Salesian Family. The dream that began in Valdocco has developed and grown to embrace the whole world. The faces of the Past Pupils surrounding Gastini represent the diversity of the movement, with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures.
And so, after 104 years, the Past Pupils give Don Bosco another monument; the first, as you will remember, is the one placed on the square in front of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, by sculptor Gaetano Cellini from Ravenna.
The Vicar of the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr Stefano Martoglio; the Deputy Mayor of Turin, Michela Favara, and the family of Carlo Gastini announced their presence at this significant moment of the Salesian Family. The Confederate Presidency, led by Bryan Magro, will fully take part, accompanied by all those present at the Extraordinary World General Assembly that is taking place, from 2 to 6 October, in Valdocco.
