The Missionary Formation Course in Shillong, India, is an unforgettable experience for the Salesian Family members of the South Asia Region every year.
The course, conducted in Mathias Institute, Provincial House in the INS province, brought together 27 Salesians, FMAs, MSMHC and VSDB.
After having been in ministry for quite a period of time, living and praying together as brothers and sisters, reflecting on the mission and looking at different perspectives, interacting with missionaries, lay people, young people, novices and clerics in formation gives a new outlook to them. The scholarly and practical input sessions from experienced and passionate Salesians and others including Bishops, Provincials, theology professors, sisters and lay people greatly enriched the thinking process.
Pioneering Bishops, Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil, Bishop George Palliparambil and Bishop Denis Panipitchai infused a great sense of missionary spirit in the participants.
Sessions on Scriptural, theological and Salesian foundation of mission, methods of evangelization, the institutions as means of evangelization and many other topics assisted the reflection. Masses with the people, staying in remote villages for a day, attending their prayer services, experiencing their hospitality and visiting the mission centers enhanced the experience.
The three-week course has been planned and coordinated by Fr. Sunny Palamthattel, the Regional Coordinator for the Missionary Animation of South Asia.
We give thanks to the Lord for this opportunity and we hope that it could bring new enthusiasm and passion for evangelizing the needy and poor youth.
