Italy – "Zatti, our brother" at the "Religion Today Film Festival" in Trent

25 September 2024

(ANS – Trento) – The "Religion Today Film Festival", founded in 1997 as a pioneer of spiritual and inter-religious cinema in Italy, celebrates its 27th edition this year. The cultural event is dedicated to reflection on issues of faith, spirituality and inter-religious dialogue and offers an annual opportunity to discuss the evolution of spiritual and religious cinema and its role within society. This year's edition also saw significant Salesian participation.

64 films in competition, from 32 different countries and 25 guest directors: these are just some of the numbers of this festival, which through the prism of religious cinema has provided a fascinating and unprecedented overview of Trentino: a region, historically linked to the Tridentine Council, but which is and remains also a land of encounter and dialogue, capable of conveying important messages of solidarity and peace.

The poster is already very illustrative of the spirit of the event: a cartoon in which God insists on creating Creation and wonders how many religions to include. And this film festival shines for its multi-religiousness and for this holistic characteristic of the sharing of faith, where everything is understood when we see and hear each other, in the specific features of each faith.

In the beautiful surroundings of Trentino-Alto Adige (with stages, in addition to Trent, also in Arco, Dro, Lavarone, Riva del Garda, Altopiano di Pinè and, finally, Bolzano) films and documentaries were screened, and it was possible to interact with their directors and actors from various parts of the world, protagonists of exciting stories full of humanity.

The Salesian Congregation was also presented at the Religion Today Film Festival 2024 through the screening of "Zatti, our brother", within a special out-of-competition section dedicated to life given by others, as is the case with the "kinsman of the poor" and the protagonists of two documentaries that accompanied the section, relating to Doctors Without Borders. The Salesian medium-length film was presented by its director, Salesian Fr Ricardo Campoli, a member of the Salesian Social Communication Sector.

During the festival there were daily moments of prayer, at the beginning of the day, in the Church of the Suffrage, in addition to a moment of inte-rreligious prayer, some masterclasses with professionals in the sector, aperitifs with the "peoples", book presentations and various presentations on the challenges of the audiovisual and the digital age.

The Archbishop of Trent, Archbishop Lauro Tisi, was also present on occasions; while the entire event was moderated by Lisa Martelli and also accompanied by Andrea Morghen, Artistic Director.
