Kenya – Don Bosco Boys Town: Kenya’s First AWS Digital Academy Launched

(ANS – Nairobi) – In a groundbreaking move for digital education in Kenya, Don Bosco Boys Town has become the country’s first AWS Digital Academy Member Institution. The launch event held on 10th Sept., marks a significant step forward in cloud skills training and certification in the region.

The ceremony was attended by key figures from both government and private sectors, including Madam Mary Karema, ICT E-government and Digital Economy Secretary, and representatives from GIZ Digital Transformation Centre, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Chancen International, Generation Kenya, Thin Africa, Standbik Foundation, and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

As an AWS Digital Academy Member Institution, Boys Town is now authorized to offer Digital Literacy Cloud Skills Training and certification, potentially opening new avenues for youth employment in the rapidly growing tech sector.

During the event, the vice-provincial of Don Bosco, East Africa presented an overview of the organization’s global presence, emphasizing its commitment to youth skill development. This new partnership with AWS is seen as an extension of Don Bosco’s mission to equip young people with valuable, market-relevant skills.

The launch has gathered enthusiastic support from attendees, with government officials and private sector representatives pledging to collaborate on this initiative. The partnership between Amazon, Thin Tech, and Don Bosco Boys Town is expected to create new opportunities for digital skills training in Kenya.

As the first AWS Academy in Kenya, this initiative is poised to play a crucial role in bridging the digital skills gap and preparing the country’s workforce for the demands of the modern digital economy. The success of this program could set a precedent for similar initiatives across the African continent.
