Italy – "The dream that makes you dream". The Missionary Ethnological Museum at Colle Don Bosco: a long temporary exhibition... a dream

09 August 2024

(ANS – Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – Once again this year, the Strenna theme inspired the various temporary exhibitions at the Missionary Ethnological Museum (MEM) at Colle Don Bosco, a place that bears witness to the global dimension of the dream. Specifically, in this Bicentennial year of Don Bosco's Dream at Nine Years of Age, an exhibition has been set up in two displays: one that acts as a common thread throughout 2024 and exhibits an African fabric (or tapestry) that depicts, according to local art, the dream at 9 years of age; the other that varies according to the period, highlighting the different characters in the dream: Don Bosco, Jesus (the noble Man), Mary  (the Woman of majestic appearance), young people.

At this stage the exhibition dedicated to young people is made available to visitors. They are the main beneficiaries of Don Bosco's dream, his "field of work", for which he spent his whole life until the end. winning their hearts with kindness and meekness, he managed to transform them from wolves into lambs, making them "good Christians and upright citizens".

The choice to set up the exhibition dedicated to young people is not accidental: in the coming days (11-16 August) the Youth Synod will be staged in the Salesian Places around Castelnuovo Don Bosco so that they can visit the MEM en masse and the exhibition aimed at them.

The exhibition includes a careful selection of objects that deal with the theme of initiation, or the transition from childhood to adulthood, which takes place with different rites and procedures among the various ethnic groups represented at the MEM.

The exhibition follows the opening hours of the Museum:

-             Tuesday - Saturday 10:00-12:00 / 14:30-18:00

-             Sunday and holidays 10:30-12:30 / 14:00-18:00

-             Weekly closing day: Monday.
