Among the sites visited, the majestic St Peter's Basilica, a symbol of faith and spirituality for millions of people around the world. The visit to this sacred place allowed the members of the Provincial Council not only to get in touch with the rich history of the Church, but also to renew their devotion and dedication to their apostolic commitment in a deeply stimulating environment.
In addition, the group visited the historic catacombs of San Callisto, entrusted to the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco, and there was able to reflect on the life experience, witness and unwavering faith of the first Christians. This experience strongly reminded everyone of the origins of their faith and the legacy they seek to carry forward.
Another important stop was the Salesian Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a place of great significance for the Salesian Family. The visit to this church, founded by Don Bosco, was a moment of particular significance which allowed the members of the Provincial Council to connect more deeply with the Salesian legacy and its educative and pastoral mission.
On their way, the Spanish pilgrims had the opportunity to be accompanied by two important personalities: the aforementioned Card. Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, and the Regional Councillor for the Mediterranean, Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy. "Both offered us their guidance and support during the visit, enriching the experience with their wisdom and their deep connection with Salesian values", one of the participants testified.
The experience of the trip to Rome served to significantly close the three-year period 2021-2024, allowing the Provincial Council to reflect on the results achieved during its mandate and the challenges that remain, and to prepare the way for the new Council that will soon take the reins of the Province.
The experience was described by the participants as a moment of great personal and spiritual enrichment which reaffirmed the commitment of all to continue working to build a more just and caring community, following the example and teachings of Don Bosco.
