India - A Triumph of Diplomacy and Debate: DBSN MUN'24

(ANS – Nerul) – Don Bosco Senior Secondary School Nerul hosted the much-anticipated DBSN MUN'24 on 13 and 14 of July, drawing about 90 participants from various schools. This two-day conference featured committees like the International Press (IP), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and Lok Sabha. Each committee engaged in dynamic debates and simulations, allowing delegates to delve deep into global issues and sharpen their diplomatic skills.

The opening ceremony set the tone for the event, with Mrs Kalyani Chaudhuri, the Principal, Fr Shekar Mariadas, the Vice-Principal, and other community members and supervisors in attendance. Their presence lent an inspiring start to the conference, emphasizing the importance of the proceedings and encouraging participants to engage wholeheartedly.

In the UNSC, delegates deliberated on pressing matters of international security. The debates were intense, with delegates proposing and negotiating resolutions that addressed critical global security issues. The UNHRC, with a special emphasis on human rights abuses in Central and Latin America, saw delegates engage in passionate discussions. The focus on regions like El Salvador and Venezuela highlighted the delegates' understanding and commitment to human rights, bringing attention to the complexities of these issues.

The Lok Sabha committee offered a unique flavour, focusing on national issues and giving participants a platform to experience the intricacies of Indian parliamentary procedures. Delegates debated and discussed policies and bills, simulating the workings of the Indian Parliament. The committee sessions were marked by lively debates, showcasing the delegates' knowledge and rhetorical skills.

The presence of a very experienced executive board elevated the conference, ensuring high-quality debates and well-structured sessions. Their expertise and guidance were instrumental in maintaining the decorum and rigor of the proceedings, providing valuable feedback and mentoring to the delegates.

The conference concluded with an award ceremony where winners were awarded cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. These awards acknowledged the outstanding contributions and performances of the delegates, celebrating their hard work and dedication over the two days.

Overall, the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, combined with the meticulous planning by the organizers, made DBSN MUN'24 a memorable and successful event. It provided a platform for young minds to explore and express their views on critical global issues, underscoring the importance of collaboration and diplomacy. The event not only fostered a deeper understanding of international relations among the participants but also equipped them with essential skills in negotiation, public speaking, and critical thinking.
