Born in Mondovì (CN) in 1966, Andrea Bozzolo has been a Salesian since 1986 and a priest since 1995. He became a Doctor in Classical Letters with a thesis defended in 1992 in Turin on "Augustine's hermeneutics. Theory and reading of the Enarratio in Ps. 103”.
In 2002, at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy, he obtained his PhD in Systematic Theology with a thesis entitled: "The sacramental effectiveness of faith. Mystery, Symbol and Rite in Odo Casel", published in its entirety under the title "Mystery, Symbol and Rite in Odo Casel" (Libreria Editrice Vaticana, Vatican City 2003). His curriculum vitae is filled with publications in the area of systematic and liturgical theology, ministry and Salesian spirituality.
Prof. Bozzolo has been a professor at the Pontifical Salesian University since 1999. He served as Full Professor of Systematic Theology of the Faculty of Theology, in the Crocetta, Turin section of the UPS, a Faculty of which he was also Dean from 2008 to 2017. He was also appointed Professor of Systematic Theology at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy in Milan and taught Theology of Marriage at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies.
He collaborated with the Pontifical Council for the Family and participated as an expert in the 15th (2018) and 16th (2023) Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, on the themes of young people and synodality.
Since 2021, as Rector Magnificus of the UPS, he has directed and promoted the identity and activity of the academic community. He has taken care of the execution of the normative indications of the Apostolic See, the Salesian Congregation and the Grand Chancellor of the UPS, the Rector Major, as well as the observance of the Statutes, the Order of Studies and the Regulations of the UPS. He has seen to to the cooperation of Faculties and Institutes and taken care of the inclusion of the UPS in the network of Universities and in the diplomatic and academic context.
