The Slovenian Catechetical Office, under the auspices of the Slovenian Bishops' Conference, has in fact chosen the story entitled "Tvoj talent šteje" as the guide text for the "Šmarnice " 2024. Zgodba o misijonarju Andreju Majcnu” (Your talent counts. The story of missionary Andrej Majcen), published by the "Salve" Salesian publisher and written by very active publicist Mrs Barbara Kastelec, in the Salesian parish of Rakovnik, Ljubljana, who together with her whole family is very devout and grateful to the Servant of God, Salesian and missionary, Fr Andrej Majcen.
This choice has filled the Slovenian Salesian Family with joy, also in consideration of the different anniversaries that are celebrated in 2024: the 120th anniversary of the birth of Father Majcen (1904), the 25th anniversary of his death (1999), and the 100th anniversary of his arrival at the Salesian house in Rakovnik (1924).
Fr Marko Košnik, Superior of the Salesian Saints Cyril and Methodius Province of Slovenia (SLO) writes in the presentation of the book: "The life of Fr Andrej Majcen is presented here through the vivid images of the daily environment. It is not something idealised, but very ordinary, the kind we also experience. Things are unfolding before us that sometimes even seem irrelevant. You could wait for the supernatural to leave more marks. But even the smallest thing could become important for the continuation of Andrej Majcen's journey to holiness. ”
The story, which in May will be read in several hundred Slovenian parishes, will thus accompany thousands of children, adolescents and young adults considering the main stages of life of the Slovenian Salesian Servant of God, and through a map and a collection of stickers will also allow them to know the sanctified life of this Son of Don Bosco, a missionary in China and Vietnam in the last century, who was always very devoted to Mary Help of Christians.
