On 1 November, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Vice-Province, at its headquarters in Maputo, the Apostolic Nuncio to Mozambique, Msgr Edgar Peña Parra, gave a presentation to the Rectors of the Salesian Houses in the country on a very topical subject - the family.
The Apostolic Nuncio, accompanied by his secretary, Msgr Christian Antonietti, in the presence of the Provincial and Vicar of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, said that the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia increases the challenges of the Church. "The family has incalculable forces: mutual aid, the growing relations, educational activities, the sharing of joys and difficulties. The family is the place where people live with joy and love. There are many signs that speak of marriage breakdown, but, despite everything, the desire to have a family is still alive, especially among young people. "
Msgr Peña Parra also presented some data from the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), in particular some information that emerged in the Plenary Assembly held in July in Luanda, Angola, on "The family in Africa yesterday, today and tomorrow in the light of the Gospel."
At the end of his speech, the papal nuncio blessed a statue of Mary Help of Christians donated to the Don Bosco Institute by the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Francesco Cereda.
