(ANS – Zaragoza) – Once again this year, the Don Bosco National Prize has highlighted the talent of young Spaniards capable of mastering science and technology and of being prepared for an increasingly technological and connected future. At the gala evening held on 21 March at the Salesians in Zaragoza, two projects carried out with Artificial Intelligence (AI) stood out: a mathematical tool for the expression of genes based on AI and an autonomous driving system based on AI.

Other award-winning projects were the "Pigeon Express" alarms to prevent threats in municipalities (in the "Industrial Technologies" category); the "Nebula Lite" augmented reality glasses ("Information and Communication Technologies" category) or the "Your well-being in your hands" mental health monitoring application ("Health, Social and Legal Sciences" category); and the "Keeping your Ph at bay" research project (in the "Sciences" sector).

During the two days of the exhibition the participants exhibited their 39 projects, presenting and explaining them to all the people who visited the various stands, including the members of the jury made up of industry professionals and representatives of the business world.

The Commitment Award went to the "La Caixa" banking group for its support of the Don Bosco National Award since its inception. On behalf of the institution, Dr Jorge García received the award and gave the institutional address.

The gala was attended by numerous personalities from the world of economics, education and the Salesian Congregation. In addition, the gala was concluded by the Director General of Planning, Centres and Vocational Training, Luis Mallada. The event was also attended by the President of the Parliament of the Autonomous Community of Aragon, Marta Fernández, and the Director of the Don Bosco Prize, Fr Juan Bosco Sancho; along with other local authorities. The keynote speech was given by José Luis Latorre on the theme "The ingredients of people who will succeed in the 21st century".

For Merche López, Principal of the Salesian School in Zaragoza, the celebration of this 37th edition is a source of pride for the educational community. "This competition embodies the fundamental values of innovation, creativity and commitment that characterise our Salesian institution. We greatly appreciate the participation of these young people and their projects which reflect their dedication, their effort and their desire to contribute to a better world. These works show a high level of excellence and originality and open a path towards a more promising and supportive future, " she said.

The Don Bosco National Prize is a unique competition of its kind, which over the course of the different editions has managed to involve an increasing number of companies and organisations that see in it a pool of talents and interesting projects.
