Responding to questions from journalists, the Rector Major showed particular affection for the Salesian presence in this part of the world, the Brazilian Midwest. "This land blessed by God is a land where the sons of Don Bosco and the Salesian Family have had the opportunity to be very much welcomed and to put down roots, bringing many sons and daughters of this land closer to the Salesian charism" he said.
Subsequently, Card. Ángel Fernández Artime went to the Salesian community in Araçatuba, where he had a private lunch with the local Salesian Family and with Bishop Krzywy. After this moment of sharing, the Rector Major reached the UniSALESIANO campus, taking part in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Salesian presence in Araçatuba. This anniversary marks not only a milestone in the history of the city, but also a testimony to the constant commitment of the Salesians in education, moral formation and support for young people.
The presence of the Rector Major in Araçatuba underlines the spiritual and educational leadership that the Congregation offers, as well as the importance of the local community in living the Salesian charism.
The first day of the Visit therefore ended with the Mass presided over by Card. Ángel Fernández Artime in the university church of Mary Help of Christians on the UniSALESIANO campus and broadcast live on the "UniSALESIANO Araçatuba" YouTube channel. On the sidelines of the celebration, the Rector Major was also awarded honorary citizenship of Araçatuba – a tribute voted and unanimously approved by the City Council at its session on 19 February.
