Spain – 2nd edition of Pastoral Dialogues: "Artificial intelligence vs pastoral intelligence"

(ANS – Madrid) – The National Centre for Salesian Youth Ministry in Spain, in coordination with the Central Catequética Salesiana (CCS) the Salesian Publisher in the country, is presenting the second edition of the Pastoral Dialogues, the theme of which will be "Ministry in the metaverse: artificial intelligence vs pastoral intelligence". The event will take place on 12 April 2024 at the St James the Greater Province (SSM) Provincial House in Madrid, and will aim to study and reflect on the proposed theme thanks to contributions from various experts in the sector.

The day will begin with a greeting from Fr Fernando García, SSM Provincial, and presentations and round tables will be held later in the day. Fr Jaime Tatay, Jesuit and professor at the Pontifical University of Comillas, will present a report entitled: "Virtual World and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges for Pastoral Action". The round table moderated by Fr Koldo Gutiérrez, SDB, entitled "Ethical issues in the face of the development of artificial intelligence", will involve Juan Ramón La Parra, a priest of the diocese of Barcelona, and José Fernando Juan, professor of philosophy and educator from the Marianists in Madrid.

In the afternoon there will be an interview with Carmen Pellicer, theologian and educator, president of the Trilema Foundation, on the theme "Artificial intelligence vs. emotional intelligence in education". To conclude the day, Fr Javier Valiente, Salesian National Delegate for Communication, will present the document of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See "Towards a full presence - Pastoral reflection on engagement with social media".

In presenting the objectives and meaning of this day of dialogue, Fr José Miguel Núñez Moreno, Director of the Salesian National Center for Youth Ministry and coordinator of this formation day, clarified: "In this second edition of the dialogues on youth ministry, we want to enter into the dialogue between artificial intelligence and pastoral intelligence, convinced that the meeting is necessary to continue making youth ministry a fruitful service from the educational point of view and at the service of the transmission of the faith."

The day is aimed primarily at teachers and formators in schools, social educators, youth leaders in leisure platforms, catechists and animators of faith education courses, as well as formators active in other educational fields.

The meeting is being organised by the Salesians in Spain and is open to all interested religious, ecclesial and educational bodies.
