Spain – Social campaign of the Salesians of Don Bosco: "Let us dream and be committed"

20 February 2024

(ANS – Madrid) – As is the case every year, the Social Platforms of the Salesians of Spain’s St James the Greater Province (SSM) are offering their own social awareness campaign. This year, as part of the "A dream for you"  pastoral campaign and on the International Day of Social Justice, on 20 February, the chosen message is "Let us dream and be committed" ("Soñamos y nos comprometemos", in the original version). For this reason, at 11:00 (UTC+1) on Tuesday 20 February, a video was published on the YouTube channel of the Salesians of Spain in which several people (young people and adults) from the projects run by the SSM Salesian Social Platforms talk about their dreams.

The SSM Province’s Salesian Social Platforms have proposed a campaign in which they have involved the people who take part in their projects, with the idea of continuing to dream and spreading the awareness that it is necessary to be committed in order to be able to achieve dreams.

Due to the campaign, the different Salesian Social Platforms of the SSM Province have developed different materials. For example, a manifesto has been produced that states very clearly: “This year we celebrate the bicentenary of the revealing dream of a simple boy from a very humble family, young John Bosco. He was able to build a better future for many people from a dream, his dreams. This month we are resolutely developing our ‘Dream and Commit‘ campaign to coincide with the celebration of Social Justice Day (20 February), dreaming of achieving it and helping everyone to achieve it, because we are convinced that this social justice is absolutely essential for the development of Human Rights and Peace."

In the video prepared to illustrate the campaign, the dreams and desires of the protagonists are evident and the Salesian Social Platforms are focusing this month on this idea of dreaming and at the same time being committed. In addition, the campaign includes different materials to continue working throughout the year.

At the heart of the Campaign is the commitment to accompany people in vulnerable situations in their processes of social inclusion, access to work, integral promotion and personal and social development; there is a commitment to justice and social transformation, especially for those people who have greater difficulties in accessing education, culture, work and home, providing them with help to try to improve their situation. There is a commitment to creating spaces in which people can raise their voices and be heard, to direct their own lives; there is personal and professional commitment through their example, their time and their lives.

The pastoral campaign has several educational resources that invite reflection, with the manifesto and also a poster created for the occasion; and it will be made visible on social networks, engaging with all the tools available, to show situations and share the dreams of people who are part of Salesian projects and those in situations of vulnerability.

The Salesians in Spain have 418 active projects in the field of Social Platforms, with about 58,000 beneficiaries, followed by over 2,800 educators. In the SSM Province, the projects are managed by three bodies: the "Pinardi Federation", for the Community of Madrid and Castilla La Mancha; the "JuanSoñador Foundation", for Galicia, Asturias and Castilla e León; and the "BoscoSocial Foundation" in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Logroño and Santander.
