The event commenced with a solemn invocation of blessings upon all participants, setting the tone for an enriching exploration of faith and interfaith relations. Father Biju Michael, the Salesian Regional Superior of South Asia, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of understanding and engaging with the theological aspects of neighbour religions. Drawing inspiration from Church Documents and General Chapters 24 and 28, Father Michael stated, “We extend our service to all, and all deserve our attention.”
Father Thomas Santiagu, the Provincial of Hyderabad Province, welcomed the participants, expressing his hope for a fruitful and harmonious exchange of ideas. Father Jose Kuttianimattathil, a member of the Formation Sector, provided insights into the dynamics and processes of the Seminar. Brother Vincent Castilino, the Coordinator of the programme, offered guidelines to facilitate the smooth running of the Seminar.
The core activities unfolded with the presentation of scholarly papers, fostering learning and collaboration. The initiative aims to deepen the Salesian understanding of neighbour religions and how the Salesian charism and mission can be shared with them.
As participants engage in this intellectual and spiritual exchange, it promises to be a significant step towards greater interfaith collaboration, reflecting the Salesian commitment to embrace and serve the poor young people of diverse communities with people of all faiths and all people of goodwill.
